Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister Colonel General Safar Abiyev is going to pay an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran to further bolster military ties between the two neighboring states.

The Azeri defense minister will visit Iran upon an official invitation extended to him by his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi.

During his stay, Colonel General Abiyev and his entourage will hold separate meetings with Iran’s defense minister and other top Iranian officials on issues of mutual interest.

The two sides will also discuss regional and international developments as well as defense cooperation between the two countries.

Meanwhile, a senior Azeri official has stressed that Baku will never allow Azerbaijan’s soil to be used against Iran.

“Iran is wary of the West that can utilize the territory of neighboring countries including Azerbaijan against it. The use of Azerbaijani lands for this purpose is unacceptable,” Ali Hasanov, the National Adviser to President Ilham Aliyev, said in a television interview .

Hasnov stressed that Azerbaijan is building its internal and external relations in accordance with its own interests.

Our Muslim brothers are living in Iran, and we will not allow anti-Iranian forces to take any action in our country, he pointed out.
