Iran's Ambassador to Beirut Ghazanfar Rokn-Abadi says the recent developments in Syria are moving towards the restoration of peace and stability.

“Developments in Syria are moving towards complete peace and stability and [the UN-Arab League envoy] Kofi Annan’s report confirms that there is no other way, but a political resolution for Syria,” Rokn-Abadi said on Saturday.

“Syria has also announced readiness to cooperate with Kofi Annan,” the Iranian official added.

The UN Security Council issued a statement on Wednesday in support of a six-point plan that the UN-Arab League envoy to Syria Kofi Annan proposed to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in two rounds of talks in Damascus on March 10 and 11.

Annan said on March 11 that he “presented a set of concrete proposals” to President Assad, “which would have a real impact on the situation on the ground” in Syria. Russia and China have also supported the non-binding statement.

Rokn-Abadi added that the Syrian people will deal a final blow to enemies’ schemes by approving the new constitution, holding parliamentary elections in future and then forming a government which completes the process of reforms in Syria.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011.
