Iran has donated the Persian carpet of Every Tourist, A Knot to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) during a ceremony held in Tehran.

Several UNESCO representatives in Iran, a number of Iranian cultural officials along with some tourists who contributed to the weaving of the carpet attended the ceremony held in Tehran’s Milad Tower on June 25, 2012.

Designed by Iran’s Setareh Kavir Group, Every Tourist, A Knot has been woven by more than two million Iranian and international tourists by tying 2,233,000 knots.

The project aimed to mark the year 2010, which was named by the UN cultural body as the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures.

The first knots of the 120 x 210 carpet were tied at the Dowlatabad Garden in the southern Iranian city of Yazd on March 21, 2010. It was completed on April 4, 2012.

Every Tourist, A Knot depicts eight tourist attractions and ancient monuments of the Iranian province of Yazd.

“Weaving the carpet of Every Tourist, a Knot in Yazd will pave the ground for the expansion of ties among different cultures,” said Director of the UNESCO Office in Tehran, Tarja Virtanen at the ceremony.

The project was supported by the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, the Yazd Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department, and Yazd Office of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
