A senior Iranian official has denounced Washington’s support for the United Arab Emirates in its dispute with Iran over the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, the Greater and Lesser Tunbs, describing it as flagrant interference in Iran's domestic affairs.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian stressed on Thursday that the islands have always been and will always be inseparable parts of the Islamic Republic.

He added that the intervention by third parties in the region is aimed at creating rifts and tensions.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always voiced readiness to hold constructive talks with regional states, including the UAE, in order to promote relations and cooperation with them.

The United States on Wednesday backed UAE claims over the three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf, as President Barack Obama met Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the White House.
