In an interview with Khabar Online, Hossein Amir Abdolahian pointed out that Iran has announced that it welcomes the strengthening of diplomatic ties with the new government in Egypt.
“We understand that Egypt is undergoing a transition,” he said. “With this in mind, note that the Islamic Republic of Iran was one the first countries whose foreign ministry sent a congratulatory letter to Mr. Morsi. Afterwards, Dr. Ahmadinejad sent a message to Mr. Morsi and then they both had a conversation over the phone. The president will soon send an Iranian envoy to Egypt to deliver an invitation to the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement conference [to be held in Tehran.]”
The deputy foreign minister said that from Iran’s standpoint, there’s nothing stopping Iran from strengthening diplomatic ties with Egypt to the fullest extent.
“Iran will leave this decision to Mr. Morsi and the new Egyptian government,” he said.
