Iran's First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi felicitated Hisham Qandil on his appointment as new prime minister of Egypt.

In a message on Saturday, Rahimi expressed the hope that that Tehran-Cairo relations and cooperation would further boost during the tenure of the new premier.

Rahimi expressed hope that taking the significant position in this critical juncture of the history of the great nation of Egypt, Qandil would help progress and development of the country.

Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi appointed Irrigation Minister Hisham Qandil as the country's new prime minister late in July.

He obtained a doctorate in irrigation from the University of North Carolina in the United States in 1993, according to his ministry's Facebook page.
