Iran's parliament speaker Ali Larijani said today the massive participation of NAM members in Tehran's summit was a response to the West powers' allegations and revealed their international status.

According to Khabar Online’s political correspondent, Larijani was speaking at a news conference held on the sidelines of the Administration Council of Qom Province meeting.
Referring to the recent NAM (Non-Aligned Movement) summit in Tehran, the top Iranian legislator said: “By holding NAM session, the Islamic Republic of Iran manifested its active potentials in the Middle East region. It was a successful political and diplomatic step taken by Iran.”
“Non-Aligned countries should take the best advantage of the present opportunity and play their role more vigorously,” Larijani suggested.
"The influence of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Non-Aligned Movement became already evident in the final statement of the summit, as due to the variety of ideas and tendencies among its members, the movement enjoys a great ability to resolve disputes between the countries," he said, adding, "drawing on the capabilities of NAM will contribute enormously to establish peace and tranquility in the region."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Iran's Parliament Speaker said: "The idea of making some amendments to the structure of the United Nations which was also stressed by the Supreme Leader [Ayatollah Ali Khamenei] was generally welcomed by NAM members. However, due to the interference of world powers, prospect for executing such amendments is not that much promising."

"The same is true for Iran's nuclear program which was transparently described in the NAM summit. The massive participation of member countries conveyed a clear message to the Zionist regime of Israel and some other governments which protested against holding the summit in Tehran. While they couldn't hinder the members from attending the event, they at any rate began to scream and protest," Larijani added.
