A senior Iranian legislator condemned a sacrilegious movie recently produced by an American-Israeli man in the US and the French magazine's caricatures against Islam's prophet (PBUH), and said enemies want to create apathy among Muslims towards their sanctities, although to no avail.

"These days we see that when they (the western politicians) fail in their policies, they highlight an issue like releasing an insulting movie against the prophet of kindness Mohammad Mostafa (PBUH) and also the (blasphemous) cartoons to create apathy in the Islamic communities but they failed due to God's assistance," member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Jahangir Kosari said on Monday.

His remarks came days after French weekly Charlie Hebdo published cartoons of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). The publication of the offensive cartoons came amid widespread outrage over a US-made film that insults the prophet of Islam.

The anti-Islam film and cartoons have drawn condemnation from numerous countries including Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Iran, Yemen, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, Morocco, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, etc.

In Iran, millions of Iranians in Tehran and other cities across the country held nationwide rallies in protest against the recent desecration of Islam.

The Iranian protesters chanted "Death to the US" and "Death to Israel" slogans, expressing disgust at the US and the Zionist regime's anti-Islam policies.

In relevant remarks last week, Supreme Leader of Ayatollah Khamenei questioned the western countries' claims about their respect for the freedom of expression and freedom of speech, asking why they allow someone to insult Islam, but no one can ask anything about the so-called Holocaust in their societies.

Addressing an Army cadet graduation ceremony at Imam Khomeini Naval Academy in the northern city of Noshahr, the Leader referred to the recent American-made film which insults the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH), and stressed, "We do not insist on proving that certain people or government officials were involved in this crime, but the behavior and methods of the leaders of the arrogant powers, American politicians and certain European countries have caused people of the world to point the finger of blame at them. They should prove that they were not an accomplice in this great crime and they cannot do so by simply denying their involvement. They should prove their innocence with actions. They should prevent such transgressions."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the enemies of Islam are frustrated in the face of the Iranian nation and the wave of Islamic Awakening, and added, "The great wave of Islamic Awakening is what causes them to do such idiotic things."
