Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has condemned the recent remarks made by French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius who called Iran a threat.

“The source of insecurity, instability, conflicts and conspiracies in the region is the Zionist regime [of Israel] and Western countries that support it,” Mehmanparast said on Wednesday.

Fabius said on Tuesday that Iran bears "heavy responsibility" for the recent Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip, and the Iranian government's orientation is extremely dangerous in several regions of the world.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman said these remarks aim to distract the public opinion of the world and Europe from Israeli crimes in killing and injuring hundreds of innocent people in the Gaza Strip.

“Mr. Fabius’ remarks indicate his lack of attention to the realities of the Middle East and the constructive actions, role and position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in strengthening regional peace and stability,” Mehmanparast stated.

On November 14, the Israeli military launched a series of new air and sea attacks, dubbed Operation Pillar of Cloud, against Gazans.

At least 150 Gazans, including women and children, have been killed and 1,200 others injured in more than 1,500 Israeli attacks on Gaza.

In response, Palestinian resistance fighters have fired retaliatory rockets and missiles into the Israeli-occupied lands.

Gaza has been blockaded since 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unrelenting poverty, and unprecedented levels of unemployment among the population of about 1.7 million Palestinians.
