A senior Iranian lawmaker says Israel launched its recent eight-day war on the besieged Gaza Strip based on miscalculations.

Ahmad Reza Dastgheib, the vice-chairman of Iran's Majlis Foreign Policy and National Security Committee, said on Monday that Israel’s “erroneous analyses” were due to the new conditions formed following the sweeping wave of Islamic Awakening in the region.

“Following the spread of Islamic Awakening in the region and the ensuing creation of the spirit of resistance, it can clearly be seen that, in the current circumstances, the Zionist regime has made an inaccurate analysis for attacking Palestine,” Dastgheib noted.

Dastgheib further called on Majlis to react effectively to the recent Israeli war on Gaza.

Israel launched a major military offensive against the besieged Gaza Strip on November 14, which left over 160 Palestinians, including many women and children, dead and about 1,200 others injured.

In retaliation, Palestinian resistance fighters fired rockets and missiles into Israeli cities, killing at least five Israelis.

The violence ended after the Israeli regime and the Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas agreed to an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire on November 21.
