A British court has acquitted former Iranian Ambassador to Jordan Nosratollah Tajik of his accusations and issued an order for his release from house arrest after six years.

The Westminster Court in London issued the order on Thursday afternoon after a brief session attended by Tajik and his attorneys.

Tajik was arrested in November 2006 and was accused of allegedly trying to purchase night-vision goggles for Iran from US mediators.

On November 27, Britain’s High Court ruled to block the extradition of the former Iranian diplomat to the US.

Tajik expressed satisfaction over the end of six years of ordeal for him and his family and said that he plans to return to Iran probably by the next week.

The former Iranian diplomat argued that the allegations against him were politically motivated and noted, “In a sense, I had been taken hostage here for six years.”
