An Iranian lawmaker has called on the UN nuclear inspectors not to be swayed by the West and Israel with regard to Iran’s nuclear energy program and act in accordance with legal and technical criteria.

“The pointless ambiguities and questions raised by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with regard to Iran’s nuclear activities are rooted in the fact that a political view holds sway on the Agency,” said spokesman of Iran Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Seyyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini on Thursday.

He emphasized that the IAEA’s approach to Iran nuclear issue is neither legal, nor technical.

“Instead of relying on reports prepared by its inspectors when drawing up Iran reports, the IAEA Board of Governors mostly uses baseless news provided by such unreliable sources as the Western-Zionist espionage agencies,” Naqavi Hosseini pointed out.

The lawmaker's remarks came after Deputy Director General of the IAEA Herman Nackaerts arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on top of a seven-member technical delegation on Thursday to discuss a new modality with the Iranian officials in a move to resolve the outstanding issues pertaining to Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

Naqavi Hosseini warned that as long as the IAEA insists on its political and non-technical approach, the constant visits by the Agency’s inspectors to Iran are unlikely to yield positive results.

The last round of negotiations between Iran and the IAEA was held in the Austrian capital of Vienna on August 24, 2012.

Iran and the IAEA had also held talks in Vienna on May 14 and 15, 2012. Before that session, the representatives of the two sides had held two rounds of talks in the Iranian capital, Tehran, in February and January 2012.
