Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says the relations between Tehran and Ankara are strategic and Turkey holds a special place in the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy.

Mehmanparast made the remarks in a meeting with Vice President of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party Omar Celik on Wednesday.

In both countries, there might be some sensitivity in public opinion regarding the Tehran-Ankara relations, Mehmanparast said, urging both sides to eliminate sensitivities through adopting the right policies.

“The Zionist regime [of Israel] and its supporters do not want the region’s Islamic countries to have good and friendly relations,” he said.

Mehmanparast also emphasized the necessity of mutual cooperation between Iran and Turkey for resolving regional problems and the establishment of peace and stability in the region.

“Our base for resolving regional crises is emphasizing peoples’ rights and democracy,” he said.

Celik, for his part, stated that Tehran and Ankara might have different opinions on certain issues but these disagreements have not affected and will not affect the good relation between the two countries.
