The invitation was made to the new Ghanaian president by visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in Accra on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Salehi congratulated Mahama on his victory in the presidential election and described the presence of Iranian delegation in the swearing-in ceremony of the new Ghanaian president as an indication of the Islamic Republic’s firm determination to broaden cooperation with Ghana in all fields.
The Iranian minister also voiced Iran’s readiness to share its experiences with the African state in such areas as agriculture, science, technology, healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
Salehi stated Iran and Ghana hold similar views on international affairs, and expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, Mahama welcomed Iran’s invitation and promised to visit Iran as soon as possible. He also invited Ahmadinejad to visit Ghana.
The Ghanaian president expressed hope that the two countries would upgrade their cooperation when their business councils meet in mid-2013.
Referring to five agreements signed between the two countries in the economic, education, scientific, healthcare, and agricultural fields, he appreciated Iranian Red Crescent Society and Ministry of Agriculture for their services to his country's impoverished areas.
Mahama was sworn in on January 7. He was elected to serve his first term as the Ghanaian president in December 2012 following a peaceful election.
