Ahmad Pour-Heidar, the managing director of the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ) Customs Office, said on Monday that Iran had exported about 14.531 million tons of light and heavy polyethylene, gas condensate, propane gases, butane, benzene, and paraxylene during the period from mid-march 2012 to mid-January 2013.
The Iranian official added that gas condensate accounted for 7.561 million tons of the total exports which were valued at USD 6.732 billion.
During the same period, Pour-Heidar added, seven million tons of non oil products, valued at USD 4.8 billion, were exported.
According to Pour-Heidar, countries such as China, Japan, the UAE, India, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Turkey, Romania, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Afghanistan were the main markets for the exported goods.
Iran, which sits on the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia, has been trying to enhance its gas production by increasing foreign and domestic investments, especially in its South Pars gas field.
Iran’s South Pars, which is part of a larger gas field shared with Qatar, is divided into 24 phases and holds about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, or about eight percent of the total world reserves, and more than 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas resources.
