A senior Iranian legislator laid emphasis on effective cooperation between Tehran and Moscow on different regional issues, and said the two countries' cooperation has changed the western states' approach to the Syrian issue.

Tehran-Moscow cooperation has resulted in change in West's approach to Syria, Head of Iran-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group Mehdi Sanayee said in a meeting with his Russian counterpart Nikolai Levichev in Tehran.

The two countries believe that halting violence and holding negotiations are best ways to resolve the Syrian crisis, he said.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
