Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has urged vigilance against enemy plots ahead of the forthcoming presidential election in the country.

Iran’s enemies seek to create “political waves” as the country approaches the election, Mehmanparast told university students in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday.

He stressed the importance of observing the three principles of national unity and integrity, obedience to the guidelines of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and commitment to principles and values in order to counter enemy plots.

Mehmanparast urged the Iranians to strengthen their solidarity, saying enemies seek to undermine national unity to achieve their own objectives.

Under the current international conditions, enemies lack the ability to launch a military strike on Iran, Mehmanparast noted, adding that the enemies have instead resorted to other means, particularly economic sanctions, to harm the Islamic Republic.

Arrogant powers are making their utmost effort to bring the Iranian people to their knees, Mehmanparast said, cautioning that any “careless move or wrong act” would result in serious harm.

The Iranian official emphasized that a high turnout in the upcoming election would neutralize anti-Iran efforts by arrogant powers.

On January 8, Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran’s enemies may try to prevent a high turnout in the forthcoming presidential election by causing political, economic and security distractions.

The Iranian nation, however, is too prudent to be deceived by the hostile plots of the enemies or their agents, the Leader added.
