A senior Iranian lawmaker underlined that Israel would be the first victim of a possible war on Syria by the US and its allies.

“An attack on Syria equals putting at risk the Zionist regime [of Israel’s] security, which is a strategic issue for Washington. That is why there are conflicts inside and outside the US about reaching consensus on an attack on Syria,” Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said.

He added that it was internationally unacceptable of the US to rush into starting another war in the region without UN Security Council's approval.

In recent days, the US, Israel and France have adopted the rhetoric of war against Syria over allegations that the Syrian government was behind a recent chemical attack near Damascus.

The call for military strike intensified after the militants operating inside Syria and the foreign-backed Syrian opposition claimed on August 21 that hundreds had been killed in a government chemical attack on militant strongholds in the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar. The Syrian government has strongly denied the claim, accusing the militants of the attack.
