The 37-year-old player quit after 18 years at the end of the Esteghlal – Mes match in the Iranian Professional League. The match finished 1-1 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
“I wanted to go out on top form. I want to thank all the fans and reporters and I wish them all the best,” Majidi said.
Majidi hung up his boots once in September 2012 after Esteghlal refused to offer him a contract extension but came out of retirement.
Majidi scored 46 goals in 137 matches for Esteghlal. For the most part of his career, he was in the United Arab Emirates where he played for Al-Wasl, Al-Ain, Al-Ahli and Al-Nasr.
His goal against Chinese side Dalian in AFC Champions League semifinal helped Al-Ain to reach the final match, eventually winning the trophy for the first time in the club's history.
At international level Majidi played 45 games for Iran and scored 10 goals.
Esteghlal captain Farhad Majidi officially announced his retirement from football on Tuesday.
