Condemnations, condolences pour in over martyrdom of Hamas leader’s family members

Palestinian resistance movement Islamic Jihad has strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s killing of sons and grandchildren of Hamas Political Leader Ismail Haniyeh, saying that the regime has resorted to assassinating family members of resistance leaders following its defeat on the battlefield.

Islamic Jihad issued a statement on Wednesday after Haniyeh confirmed in an interview with Al Jazeera the martyrdom of three sons and three grandchildren in an Israeli attack at Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza.

“This unjust operation proves that the enemy is in confusion due to the failure to reach its goals on the battlefield”, the movement said in its statement, adding that the Zionist regime is trying to compensate for its defeat by targeting the siblings and families of resistance fighters.

Islamic Jihad stressed that targeting resistance leaders and commanders and their family members will enhance the determination and resilience of Palestinian people and resistance groups in upholding Palestinians’ rights and the defeat of the Zionist regime.

Ansarullah sends condolences

Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement reacted to the killing of Haniyeh’s family members in the Israeli attack which it described as cowardly.

Ansarullah Spokesman Mohammad Abdul Salam issued a statement on Wednesday, saying that such great sacrifices will enhance the Palestinian nation’s resilience against Israeli arrogance and cruelty.

In a separate statement, Yemen Army Spokesman Yahya Saree extended his condolences as well, saying that targeting Haniyeh’s family members reveals the Israeli regime’s defeat on the battlefield.

Mahmoud Abbas condoles with Haniyeh

In a phone call with Haniyeh, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas also offered condolences over the martyrdom of his family members, according to the Telegram page of Hamas.

The movement said Haniyeh told Abbas that the lives of his sons and grandchildren have been sacrificed for al-Quds and Al-Aqsa.

In separate phone calls, Haniyeh also received condolences from Deputy Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Jameel Mizhir, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Qatar Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Hamas said.
