Iranian, Syrian FMs discuss regional developments

Foreign ministers of Iran and Syria have held a phone conversation, discussing bilateral ties and the latest developments in the region following Iran’s attack on the Zionist regime in response to its strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus earlier in April.

During the phone talk held on Sunday, Iran’s Top Diplomat Hossein Amirabdollahian briefed his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad on Tehran’s diplomatic efforts to legally pursue the Israeli regime attack as well as the UN Security Council’s inaction to condemn the regime due to opposition by the US, France and the UK.

Amirabdollahian also elaborated on the Iranian attack against Israel’s military targets, which he said was carried out based on the Islamic Republic’s right to legitimate defense.

He stressed that Iran is fully ready to defend its territorial integrity and interests.

The Syrian FM once again condemned the April 1 Israeli attack on the Iranian diplomatic premises in Damascus, and emphasized Iran’s legitimate right to respond to the evil act of the Zionist regime within the framework of international law.

Also during their phone call, Amirabdollahian and Mekdad discussed the Gaza war, reiterating calls for an immediate halt to the Israeli regime’s crimes against Palestinians in the besieged territory. They also stressed the need for sending humanitarian aid to Gaza and lifting the blockade of the territory.
