Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will attend the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) due to be held in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, an Iranian official at the Presidential Office says.

“Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will be present in this summit at the invitation of Saudi King Abdullah,” Mohammad-Reza Forqani, the Director General for International Affairs at the Presidential Office, told IRNA on Monday.
He added that Iran has always played a decisive role in decision-making processes of the OIC, noting that the extraordinary summit aims to discuss developments in Muslim countries.

Forqani stated that the summit will be held in the presence of top officials from Muslim countries in Mecca on August 14-15.
Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz has called for an emergency Islamic summit of the OIC in Mecca to address major issues facing the Muslim world and the latest developments in the region.
