Fereydoun Abbasi, director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, announced that Tehran is ready to cooperate with other countries in building nuclear reactors provided that those countries have the expertise to ensure the safety standards set by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Iran has set the goal of producing 20,000 megawatts of nuclear electricity by building several nuclear reactors.

The Bushehr nuclear reactor being built by the Russians in southern Iran has the capacity to generate 1000 megawatts of nuclear electricity.

“Now we are gaining the necessary experience… to manage the construction of new nuclear reactors,” Abbasi told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
