Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular and Parliamentary Affairs Hassan Qashqavi says the Islamic Republic plans to set up a special headquarters to solve problems faced by the Iranian nationals in Canada.

Speaking on the sidelines of the government’s meeting on Wednesday, Qashqavi said the Iranian Embassy in Canada can solve problems faced by Iran’s nationals there by making their scanned files available to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Referring to reports on designating Italy’s Embassy in Tehran as the interests section of Canada, the Iranian diplomat quoted earlier remarks of the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast, who said no agreement has been reached between Iran and Canada in this regard yet.

In a hostile move, Ottawa closed its embassy in Tehran on September 7 and ordered the Iranian diplomats in Canada to leave the country within five days.

The Canadian government has also frozen the bank accounts of many Iranian nationals living in Canada and banned money transfers to Iran.

Iran's Foreign Ministry slammed Canada’s unilateral decision to sever ties with Tehran, calling it a “non-professional, unconventional and unjustifiable” move.

Qashqavi had earlier noted that the Islamic Republic would examine the legal aspects of Canada’s move and act in accordance with international law.
