Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says the brutal Israeli assault against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is an example of real terrorism.

“The savage and atrocious attacks by the Zionist regime [of Israel] against the innocent, Muslim and oppressed people of the Gaza Strip are an example of real terrorism,” Salehi said in his speech at the council meeting of the D8 foreign ministers in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The Iranian foreign minister added that the United Nations Security Council must stop its double standards on the Palestinian and Muslim issues, urging the UN body to immediately investigate the Israeli attack on Gaza.

The foreign minister also stated that the Islamic Republic strongly condemns “the disgraceful act of the Zionist regime” against Gazans.

On November 14, the Israeli military launched a series of new air and sea attacks, dubbed Operation Pillar of Cloud, against Gazans.

At least 150 Gazans, including women and children, have been killed and 1,200 others injured in more than 1,500 Israeli attacks on Gaza.

In response, Palestinian resistance fighters have fired retaliatory rockets and missiles into the Israeli-occupied lands.

The Israeli military frequently carries out airstrikes and other attacks on the Gaza Strip, saying the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes. However, in violation of international law, disproportionate force is always used and civilians are often killed or injured.

Gaza has been blockaded by the Israeli regime since 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.
