Speaking to KhabarOnline, Olli Heinonen the former deputy director-general for safeguards at the IAEA said: I wish, indeed, that the IAEA and Iran reach agreement on how to proceed with the Parchin.
On February 13, Iran and the IAEA wrapped up their latest round of talks on Iran’s nuclear energy program in Tehran.
“Though the visit to Parchin is indispensable, it is important that all aspects of the military dimension are addressed for once and all.” Said Heinonen, now is a scholar in Harvard University. It is while Iran says is not obligated to open its military sites, including Parchin, to the IAEA inspectors.
Meanwhile a senior Iranian lawmaker says the International Atomic Energy Agency’s request to visit Iran’s Parchin military site is beyond the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of Iran’s Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, said on Friday that the IAEA should know that all the nuclear activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran are in line with the NPT.
After the talks, Iran’s Ambassador to the IAEA Ali Asghar Soltanieh, who headed the Iranian negotiating team, said that Tehran and the agency had resolved some differences and reached agreements on certain issues.
He further noted that the remaining differences would be discussed in the next meeting between the two sides.
“Such detailed discussions between experts are essential in building confidence on the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program.” Referring to more technical talks with iran, Mr. Heinonen said: “Therefore, it is essential that the parties engage to detailed technical expert level discussions on the scope and purpose of the studies with high explosives and experiments related to the neutron initiators.”
The latest talks were held at the headquarters of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and the IAEA’s chief inspector Herman Nackaerts headed the agency’s negotiating team.
