NIOEC Chief Farhad Ahmadi told the oil ministry's website that "in the framework of indigenizing, setting up three varieties of small oil refineries is on the agenda which includes those using crude oil, gas condensate or fuel oil as feedstock".
Referring to advantages of these oil refineries, he said, "To build small oil refineries, a bidding round was held and operations of building a small oil refinery, which will process fuel oil, will be started in near future in Abadan."
"Most probably two mini oil refineries will be built in south of the country, one in Assaluyeh for processing gas condensate and another one in another location for refining crude oil."
"These mini oil refineries will be able to process 5 to 10 thousand barrels of feedstock each day."
Ahamdi noted those mini oil refineries using fuel oil as feedstock will convert 50 percent of fuel oil to valuable products such as gasoline and gasoil.
