“The deterrent warnings made by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to the enemies are serious and based on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s defense capabilities,” commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad-Ali Jafari said on Wednesday.
Visiting units on the country’s northwestern border, the commander stressed the IRGC is closely monitoring the developments in the region and is well prepared to defend Iran’s national security and its achievements.
Jafari recalled the army’s role in securing the strategic Hormuz Strait and the energy-rich Persian Gulf region.
The enemies, despite holding futile war games and imposing astronomical charges on taxpayers in their countries, are not capable of securing energy shipments in the Persian Gulf, he stated.
“The enemies who... have targeted the security of Western Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean should know they are on the course of a costly and bottomless war,” Jafari said, warning of a repeat of the US-led wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
He made the remarks in response to recent war threats by Israeli military Chief of Staff Lt. Gen Benny Gantz and similar saber rattling by other Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister for Military Affairs Moshe Ya'alon.
In a message on the occasion of the Persian New Year On March 21, Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran would raze Tel Aviv to the ground if Israel attempted a military strike against the Islamic Republic.
“Israel’s leaders sometimes threaten Iran, but they know that if they do a damn thing, the Islamic Republic will raze Tel Aviv and [the occupied city of] Haifa to the ground,” the Leader stated.
