Iranian principlist presidential hopeful Alireza Zakani says if elected, he will bring about real reform within framework of the Constitution and in line with the ideals of the Islamic Revolution

Speaking at a press conference, he described his goals as seeking justice, freedom, and reform within the framework of the Constitution as well as fighting poverty, corruption and discrimination.

The Iranian lawmaker said accepting problems, cohesion among the three branches of the government in various fields, and maintaining a “wise, dynamic and interactive” attitude in line with the national interests would be among the important principles of his administration should he win.

Zakani, who is also secretary-general of the Society of Followers of the Islamic Revolution said making empty promises without any effort to fulfill them was the major weakness of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s administration.

Zakani stated that his economic plans would focus on reducing inflation, stabilizing prices, boosting domestic production, paving the way for fair distribution of wealth, and implementing an inclusive social welfare program.

The principlist Front of the Epic-Makers of the Islamic Revolution (FEMIR) has officially voiced support for Zakani’s presidential bid.

FEMIR spokesman, Mojtaba Shakeri, said on Friday that the front is comprised of war veterans who fought during Iraqi-imposed war against Iran (1980-1988).

The Islamic Republic’s 11th presidential election will be held on June 14. Presidential hopefuls can register from May 7 to 11.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and candidates must be vetted for qualifications by the Guardian Council.
