Persepolis defeated Sepahan 2-0 thanks to two early goals from Mohammad Abbaszadeh and Hamidreza Aliasgari in the 12th and 18th minutes.
Sepahan went down to 10 men in the 35th minute. Mehdi Sharifi was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Persepolis defender Mohsen Bengar.
Elsewhere, Iran Professional League leader Esteghlal was held to a 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Mes in Kerman. Mohammad Ghazi put the visiting team in a lead in the 42nd minute and Mes Brazilian striker Edinho found the back of the net in the injury time.
Foolad played out a goalless draw against Saipa in its away game and Naft was defeated 2-0 by Malavan in Bandar Anzali.
Zob Ahan and Gostaresh Foolad finished in a goalless draw. Esteghlal Sanati and Sepasi shared a 0-0 draw. Tractor Sazi played out a goalless draw against Damash. Rah Ahan drew 0-0 at home with Saba.
With five matches left to play, Esteghlal remains top of the table on goal difference. Foolad is second and Persepolis is third, three points behind Esteghlal.
