The Fatwa (religious decree) issued by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei against the production and use of nuclear weapons is the roadmap of the Islamic Republic’s activity in area of the nuclear technology, and this order shows Iran’s good will to the world, a senior Iranian spokesman said.

“The Supreme Leader issued an important Fatwa which is also a ruling fiat in addition to being a Fatwa and strengthens the necessity for non-proliferation, non-storage and non-application of the Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs), specially the atomic weapons,” Spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi said in Tehran on Wednesday.

“Therefore, this is an audible message to the world people to know that the Islamic Republic is opposed to using WMDs,” he added.

Meantime, Kamalvandi underlined the Islamic Republic’s resolve to use the peaceful nuclear technology.

On February 22, 2012, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Islamic Republic considers the pursuit and possession of nuclear weapons "a grave sin" from every logical, religious and theoretical standpoint.

Iran's former Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said in 2013 that Ayatollah Khamenei's Fatwa is binding for Iran, adding, "There is nothing more important in defining the framework for our nuclear activities than the Leader's Fatwa."
