Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a telephone conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Sunday underlined the need for collective efforts to confront terrorism and extremism in the region.

The Iranian president felicitated the Qatari Emir on the advent of the Muslims' holy fasting month of Ramadan, and wished for the establishment of peace and security all throughout the Muslim world.

He further stressed that Iran and Qatar can contribute positive efforts to the establishment of peace and stability in the region through joint cooperation with each other.

President Rouhani further expressed regret over insecurities in the region, specially in Iraq, and said, "Extremism and terrorism have posed a major problem to all the regional countries and all Muslims should cooperate with each other hand in hand to help the Muslim people of the region get rid of this problem."

The Iranian president reiterated his call on all the regional states to cooperate in the creation of stability and tranquility through dialogue, brotherhood and friendship.

President Rouhani said that spread of terrorism in the region is only beneficial to the Zionists and enemies of Islam, and said, "We are ready to cooperate with all friendly and brotherly countries in the region to combat the problem of instability and insecurity and bring back peace and calm to our sensitive region."

"We hope that terrorists will come to sense the strong determination of the regional Muslim states in confrontation against terrorism and realize that our age is not an era for manslaughter and terrorism," President Rouhani said during the phone conversation.

The Qatari emir, for his part, underlined that he shares President Rouhani's views on current regional problems and crises, and said, "We condemn terrorism and manslaughter and we should join hands to destroy terrorism and human killing whatever their cause might be."

He noted that all countries should cooperate to fight terrorism because the current crisis is very dangerous and its continuation will be harmful to everyone in the region.

"The enemies of the Islamic Ummah benefit from terrorism and these crises; hence, it is necessary that we cooperate with each other to prevent the spread of crisis and plots in the region," the Qatari emir stressed.

Both Iran and Qatar have recently augmented efforts to further expand ties and cooperation in all the different political, economic, defense, security and cultural fields.

The two Persian Gulf littoral states recently signed several protocols to increase mutual cooperation.
