Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Salim al-Jabouri underlined Tehran's continued support for Baghdad in campaign against terrorist groups.

During the meeting in Turkey on Wednesday, Larijani stressed that Iran will always stand by Iraqi nation in confronting terrorism and also support Iraq’s territorial integrity.
He further stressed the need for Iran and Iraq to upgrade their relations to new levels.
Jabouri, for his part, said meetings of this kind provided chances for both countries to expand bilateral cooperation.
He noted that Iran and Iraq both have always condemned terrorism and tried to confront its very roots.
Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.

In relevant remarks in December, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in an meeting with Jabouri stressed Tehran's full and permanent support for the Iraqi nation in its campaign against terrorism.

During the meeting in Tehran, Rouhani termed Iran-Iraq relations brotherly, and said that the relations between Tehran and Baghdad were beyond ethnic, tribal and religious inclinations.

He noted that after the invasion of the ISIL and its supporters, the unity and solidarity among different tribes and followers of different religions in Iraq had developed more than ever.

Closeness and unity between Iran and Iraq could set a desirable example for all other nations and governments, Rouhani said.

He said that the Iranians would stand by the Iraqi nation in their fight against terrorist groups, no matter which tribe or followers of which religion make up for the majority in the battlefields.

Jabouri, for his part, voiced Iraq's readiness to enhance relations with the neighboring countries, specially with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
