The Iranian foreign ministry has summoned the German charge d'affaires in Tehran to protest at the comments made by Vice-President of Germany's Parliament Claudia Roth about Iran's domestic affairs during her recent visit, a deputy foreign minister said on Monday.

"In the absence of the German ambassador, the deputy director-general of the Iranian foreign ministry for West European affairs met with the German charge d'affaires in Tehran and conveyed the foreign ministry's strong protest against the baseless remarks made by the vice-president of Germany's parliament in violation of (diplomatic) norms," Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates Affairs Hassan Qashqavi told FNA on Monday.

During the meeting it was underlined that such behavior does no way fit the relations between the two countries, he added.

The German diplomat was summoned to the Iranian foreign ministry after Roth held a meeting with Mohammad Reza Aref, the former vice-president during under Mohammad Khatami, in Tehran late last month and made interfering remarks on Iran's internal issues and opposition groups.
