Tehran and Ankara signed eight cooperation agreements and one joint statement on Tuesday to boost bilateral relations in different areas.

The nine cooperation documents were signed by the two countries' ministers and senior officials in a ceremony attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Tehran on Tuesday evening.

The Iranian and Turkish president underlined the need for the further expansion of diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.

The Turkish president arrived in Tehran earlier today to discuss bilateral ties and regional developments with President Rouhani and other senior Iranian officials.

Erdogan's visit takes place at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.

Erdogan, who is heading a high-ranking delegation, is to hold separate meetings with the country's senior officials.

Both Iran and Turkey are influential countries in the region and their closer cooperation would be crucial to end regional crises.

Iran and Turkey have been pursuing increasing widening of their ties in various fields in the last two decades. Iran is a main energy supplier to Turkey and Ankara has made huge investments in Iran.

Iran is a main destination of Turkish goods and Turkey is among the top destinations of Iranian tourists and traders.

The two states plan to multiply their trade transactions in the next few years.

On Monday, Chairman of the Turkey–Iran business council executive board Riza Eser said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Iran will accelerate expansion of Tehran-Ankara trade transaction up to an annual amount of $30bln by the end of 2015.

The two neighbors are determined to reach $30bln in annual bilateral trade by the end of the year, the Turkish official said on Monday.

Eser noted that President Erdogan’s visit to Iran was timely since it came after a historic nuclear framework understanding between Iran and world powers on Thursday.

"We are pleased with the visit as businessmen," he said.
