Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Saturday that Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian will pay a visit to Beirut at the earliest.

He made the remarks speaking to reporters in New York when asked about a probable visit to the Lebanese capital by the Iranian foreign minister.

A new government has been formed in Lebanon, Khatibzadeh said, adding that there are close relations between the two countries.

He said that Amirabdollahian will pay a visit to Lebanon at the earliest to congratulate the Lebanese government and nation on the formation of the country's new government.

Khatibzadeh, however, noted that the foreign minister has no plan to visit Beirut on his way back from New York.
