The governor-general of West Azarbaijan Province said that three people were killed and 816 injured in the 5.9 magnitude earthquake in the city of Khoy, West Azarbaijan Province, northwestern Iran.

Mohammad Sadegh Motamadian made the remarks on Sunday in West Azarbaijan's Crisis Management Meeting.

Motamadian added that 30 injured people in the earthquake were hospitalized in this city and 34 people were sent to health centers in Salmas, a nearby town.

He also stated that 70 villages were damaged in the Khoy earthquake.
