Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji has once again made critical remarks about Iran and Hezbollah, accusing Tehran of direct involvement in supporting what he described as an illegal armed group in Lebanon.

According to Khabaronline, “Iran is not our enemy, but we have deep problems with it,” Rajji said, claiming that Iran directly provides weapons and financial support to Hezbollah. He stressed that Lebanon seeks peaceful relations with all countries, provided its sovereignty is respected, and there is no interference in its internal affairs.

Turning to Hezbollah, the Lebanese foreign minister said the country demands the group’s disarmament, calling it unacceptable for an illegal armed organization to operate within Lebanon.

He added that Lebanon’s security requires dismantling Hezbollah’s military and security structures, not merely collecting its weapons, and claimed that the Lebanese people support this demand.

Rajji accused Hezbollah of using confrontation with Israel as a pretext to retain its weapons and dominate Lebanon’s future, alleging that the group is attempting to buy time in hopes of political changes in the United States. He also claimed Hezbollah is pressuring the Lebanese government by raising the possibility of civil war, calling such actions unacceptable.

He noted that the Lebanese army faces a difficult mission in disarming Hezbollah, while Hezbollah leaders insist that areas north of the Litani River will not be disarmed.

On relations with Israel, Rajji said it was too early to speak about peace or direct negotiations, emphasizing that Lebanon remains officially in a state of war and that there is no chance of amending laws banning normalization with Israel.

The foreign minister also highlighted Lebanon’s relations with regional and international actors, praising Qatar for its significant support and noting that discussions on reconstruction are premature as the war has not fully ended. He said the new Syrian leadership has, for the first time, recognized Lebanon as an independent state and pledged to respect its sovereignty.

Rajji added that Lebanon maintains good relations with the United States, which supports the Lebanese army, and said Washington is the only power capable of pressuring Israel to avoid targeting civilian infrastructure in Lebanon. He reaffirmed Lebanon’s support for the Arab Peace Initiative and a two-state solution.
