An Iranian speed skater has won the world title at the 2026 World Cup in South Korea.

According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, During the first leg of the 2026 World Cup speed skating season held in Cheongseong, South Korea, Mohammadreza Saffdarian claimed gold in the men’s speed event, while Mohsen Behtashy took bronze.

The Mongolian skater finished second in the event.

Additionally, Mahin Khalili secured fifth place in the women’s speed category.

The competition featured over 100 skaters from 18 countries across two disciplines: speed and all-around. Saffdarian also placed eighth in the all-around event, the only Iranian participant in that category.

The second leg of the 2026 World Cup speed skating season will take place in Sestriere, Switzerland, during the first last of January 2026.
