The meeting was held on Wednesday, and marked the first trilateral talks between Iran, China and Pakistan on security and counterterrorism.
The Iranian delegation was led by Director General of the Foreign Ministry’s South Asia Affairs Rasoul Mousavi, who is also an assistant to the country’s foreign minister.
Bai Tian, the director general of China Foreign Ministry’s Department of External Security Affairs, and Abdul Hameed, the director general of Pakistan Foreign Ministry for Counter Terrorism led their respective delegations as well.
The three sides “held detailed discussions on the regional security situation, particularly the threat of terrorism faced by the region,” said a statement by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.
Based on the outcome of the Wednesday consultations, the parties to the talks decided to “institutionalize the trilateral consultations on counter terrorism and security for which further details will be worked out,” the statement added.
Iran’s Mousavi and Pakistan’s Abdul Hameed also held a meeting with Assistant Foreign Minister of China Nong Rong.
