Insisting that uranium enrichment is Iran’s right under the Article 4 of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Chairman of Iran's Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Borojerdi said Monday that “it would be in the interest of Westerners to cooperate with Iran rather than oppose it.”
The lawmaker further noted that Iran has been exercising its enrichment rights, adding that “pressures have not led us to abandon our rights and we have been successful in resisting them.”
Borujerdi also emphasized that the P5+1 powers “are negotiating with Iran today as a country that holds membership in the global nuclear club,” and it would be to their benefit to interact rather with than confront Tehran.
Referring to the future of the Iran-UK relations, he reiterated that the Majlis remains adamant about the reduction of Tehran-London ties, since it continues to regard Britain’s policy towards Iran as hostile.
“Until there is a change of attitude on their part, we must not revise our policy either,” said the lawmaker.
Iran and the P5+1 launched the third round of their new series of talks in the Russian capital of Moscow on Monday.
The Iranian delegation is led by Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Jalili, and the P5+1 is headed by the EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton.
