Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Ali Akbar Velayati said that more than 1000 guests from 80 countries have been invited to the conference and over 90 percent of them have so far accepted Iran’s invitation. He said that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will also deliver a speech at the conference. 1000 foreign and 200 Iranian guests have been invited to attend the conference. In reply to a question about relations between the Islamic Republic and Egypt, Velayati said he hopes that the ties will be developed and cemented based on mutual interests. Commenting on the election of Mohamed Morsi as Egypt’s president, Velayati said that the victory of Morsi in the election is the “victory of Muslims”. Velayati said since the Egyptians have valuable experiences in regard to Islamic awakening, they can exchange ideas and share their experiences with other nations. Asked about the West’s attitude toward Iran’s nuclear program, Velayati, a former foreign minister, said that the attitudes of the Western countries, particularly the Unites States, have been “biased” in this regard. “The countries should be aware that Iran will continue to develop its nuclear program based on the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT),” Velayati said. “The International Atomic Energy Agency is well-informed about all the details of Iran’s nuclear activities,” he added. mehr/281
The director of the Permanent Secretariat of the World Assembly of the Islamic Awakening says that a conference on Women and the Islamic awakening is scheduled to be held in Tehran from July 10 to 11.
