An Iranian lawmaker says the upcoming war games by the United States and 20 other countries near the Persian Gulf will be “political games” ahead of the US presidential election to win public opinion.

“Americans will take part in the maneuver to compensate for their successive defeats over the recent month in order to display might and show that they are alive,” member of the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Baqer Hosseini said on Saturday.

He added that the war games in the Persian Gulf would have no impact on Iran and emphasized that the Islamic Republic “is in full command of the Persian Gulf region.”

Hosseini noted that Iran's capabilities have proven that the US and its allies would not only fail to achieve their objectives but would sustain heavy costs.

The US has announced that it would hold demining drills near the Persian Gulf in cooperation with 20 other countries on September 16-27.
