The Iranian delegation left for Canada on Saturday and is headed by Iraj Nadimi, Chairman of the Executive Council of Iran's Inter-Parliamentary Group.
Parliamentary delegates from around the world will attend the 127th IPU meeting in the city of Quebec from October 21 to 26, 2012.
The meeting will address the citizenship rights, identity and diversity of language in a globalized world, as well as “bolstering sense of responsibility toward civilians,” “fair trade and innovative financial mechanism to achieve sustainable development,” and “use of media to boost participation of citizens and promote democracy.”
Established in 1889, the Inter-Parliamentary Union works in close contact with the UN for promotion of peace and cooperation among states, and establishment of democracy.
It expresses views on international issues in order to bring about action by parliaments and parliamentarians, and seeks to foster contacts, coordination, and the exchange of experiences among parliaments and parliamentarians of all countries.
The national parliaments of 162 countries are members of the IPU, and 10 regional parliamentary assemblies are associate members.
