Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and his Djiboutian counterpart Mohammad Ali Yousef explored avenues for the further expansion of the two countries' bilateral relations.

During the meeting held on the sidelines of foreign ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Djiboutian capital on Thursday, Salehi said that the Iran's Red Crescent Society will soon resume its activities in Djibouti.

He noted that the new building of the Red Crescent society will be inaugurated in the near future in Djibouti city.

Salehi also briefed his Djiboutian counterpart on the progress in construction of new building of Djibouti's national parliament.

Ali Yousef, for his part, thanked his Iranian counterpart for his visit to Djibouti, and expressed his readiness for enhancement of ties in all areas.

Salehi left Tehran on an African tour on Monday to visit Central Africa, Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti and Ethiopia.

Iran is also an observing member of the African Union (AU) and has shown an active presence in previous AU summit meetings.

The country is considered as one of the AU's strategic partners along with India, Japan, China, several South American states and Turkey, while Tehran is also believed to be prioritizing promotion of its economic and political ties with the African states.
