The United States seeks to form a regional coalition against the Islamic Republic of Iran, a security source says.

An unnamed security official said in an interview with the Israeli news website Walla on Wednesday that the recent visit by US Secretary of State John Kerry to the Middle East aimed to create an anti-Iran axis in the region.

The anti-Iran axis would include Israel, Turkey, Jordan and the Persian Gulf states, the official said.

According to the source, the US-led regional coalition would be tasked with supporting the harsh Western sanctions against Tehran and backing a potential military attack against the Islamic Republic in a worst-case scenario.

The report also said that the Americans believe Turkey could play a key role in the anti-Iran axis.

During his meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) on April 8, Kerry supported the Israeli regime’s war rhetoric against Tehran, saying, “No option is off the table” with regard to Iran.

In Turkey on April 7, Kerry called on Ankara to restore full diplomatic relations with the Tel Aviv regime without delay, and exchange ambassadors.

Kerry said Washington wants Ankara-Tel Aviv relations to “get back on track in their full measure” since they are both vital allies of the US in the region.

The United States, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

The US and Israeli officials have also intensified their anti-Iran war rhetoric in recent months to put more pressure on the country over its nuclear energy program.

Iran has promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.
