“Over the past five to six years, I have devised a plan with the help of 250 skilled experts. Today, I have a comprehensive plan in 24 chapters and I will tell you about the details in a press conference,” Qalibaf told reporters after signing up for the election on Saturday.
The Tehran Mayor said he would be committed to the Constitution and make sure that it is fully implemented. He said his record at the Tehran Municipality shows he will make a good president.
Qalibaf is a member of the principlist Coalition of Three, along with former Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Velayati, who currently advises Leader of the Islamic Revolution Seyyed Ali Khamenei on international affairs, and Iranian lawmaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel.
The official registration of hopefuls for Iran’s 11th presidential election entered its fifth and final day on Saturday. The registration of presidential hopefuls officially began on May 7.
Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said Friday that registration would end at 6 p.m. (1330 GMT) Saturday, emphasizing that the deadline would not be extended.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and candidates must be vetted for qualifications by the Guardian Council.
