Seventeen Iranian border guards have been killed in a shoot-out with terrorists in the southeast of the country.

The tragic event took place in the Iranian border city of Saravan in Sistan-and-Baluchestan Province on Friday night, Fars news agency quoted informed sources as saying.

Five border guards have also been wounded, according to the report.

A group calling itself Jaish-ul-Adl is said to have claimed responsibility for the incident, but no Iranian official has confirmed it yet.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister Ali Abdollahi told IRNA on Saturday that border officials are investigating the tragic event and noted that the full details of the incident would be announced soon.
