Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani congratulated the Iraqi government and nation on the formation of the new cabinet in that country.

On Monday, the Iraqi parliament approved the new cabinet proposed by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, with the majority of the lawmakers backing the prime minister’s programs and the cabinet line-up.

In separate messages to Iraqi President Fouad Massoum, Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi and Parliament Speaker Salim Al-Jabouri, the Iranian parliament speaker felicitated the formation of the new cabinet in the neighboring country.

"The Iranian parliament supports expansion of brotherly ties between the two countries in all areas," Larijani said.

The Iranian parliament speaker underlined Iran's continued all-out support for Iraq's new government and Tehran's readiness for the further development of bilateral ties.

Meantime, Larijani in separate messages to Iraqi vice-presidents Ossama Al-Nujaifi and Nouri Al-Maliki congratulated them on their appointments to their posts.

"The Iranian nation and government as a big friend supports the expansion of bilateral ties," the Iranian parliament speaker said.

The Iraqi parliament on Monday approved all the candidates proposed for Iraq's new government, with the exception of two posts, namely the defense and interior ministers. Al-Abadi requested an additional week to name them.
Outgoing Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi and former Speaker of Parliament Osama al-Nujaifi were given the largely ceremonial posts of vice-president.

Former Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jafaari was named foreign minister.

Speaking before the parliament, Al-Abadi vowed to "back the military operations in all the areas of confrontation against armed gangs and terrorists and to ensure their continuation till victory is achieved".
