Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tehran and Baku enjoy different grounds for boosting their mutual cooperation.

“There are different grounds for cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Azerbaijan Republic in economic, political and cultural fields,” Zarif said, speaking to reporters on his arrival at Baku airport on Sunday night.

He further expressed the hope that, during his one-day visit, the two sides could reach “good agreements” on the promotion of their ties, and take measures to resolve certain problems, mostly of bureaucratic and administrative type.

The Iranian FM also underscored Tehran’s policy to expand its relations with neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, and stated that Iranian and Azeri officials had more than twenty reciprocal visits in ministerial and presidential levels since the start of the President Rouhani's administration.

Zarif arrived in Baku on Sunday night and was welcomed by an Azeri foreign ministry official and Iran’s Ambassador to Baku Mohsen Pak-Ayeen.

Zarif is slated to depart Baku for the Belarusian capital of Minsk on Monday night.
